For Rassa (Spicy Curry):

1 teaspoon mustard seeds

1 teaspoon cumin seeds

A pinch of asafoetida (hing)

Curry leaves (a few)

2 medium onions, finely chopped

Salt to taste

Water as needed

For Garnish and Toppings:

Farsan (spicy fried gram flour noodles)

Chopped onions

 Chopped tomatoes

Chopped coriander leaves

Lemon wedges

Sev (crunchy chickpea flour noodles)

Instructions:

Rinse the mixed sprouts thoroughly and soak them in water for about 6-8 hours or overnight. Drain the water.

Boil the sprouts in a pressure cooker or a pot with enough water and salt until they are soft. Set aside.

In a pan, heat oil and sauté chopped onions until golden brown.

Add minced garlic and grated ginger. Cook for a minute until the raw smell disappears.

Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn soft and mushy.

Add misal masala powder, turmeric powder, cumin powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for a couple of minutes.

Add boiled sprouts to the masala mixture. Mix everything together and simmer for 5-10 minutes.

In another pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add cumin seeds, asafoetida, and curry leaves. Sauté for a few seconds.

Add finely chopped onions and finely chopped green chillies and cook until onion turns golden brown.

Add garam masala, and salt. Mix well.

Add water to make a spicy curry (rassa). Bring it to a boil and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes.

To serve, take a bowl and add the sprouts mixture. Pour the spicy curry (rassa) over it.

Garnish with farsan, chopped onions, chopped tomatoes, chopped coriander leaves, lemon wedges, and sev.

Your homemade Misal is now ready to be enjoyed. Serve it with bread, pav (Indian bread rolls), or steamed rice on the side.
