Here is a simple recipe for making wheat phulkas, also known
as chapatis:
Ingredients:
2 cups of whole wheat flour
1 cup of water
1 tablespoon oil
A pinch of salt
Extra flour for dusting
Instructions:
In a mixing bowl, add the wheat flour and salt. Mix well.
Slowly add water while kneading the dough until it forms a
soft and pliable ball. Add oil and knead the dough for a few minutes until it
becomes smooth.
Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for about
10-15 minutes.
After the dough has rested, divide it into equal-sized
balls, approximately the size of a lemon.
Dust a rolling surface with some flour and roll out each
dough ball into a thin, circular shape, about 6-7 inches in diameter.
Preheat a tawa on medium heat.
Once the skillet is hot, place the rolled-out dough onto it
and cook for 30 seconds or until small bubbles start to form.
Flip the dough over and cook the other side for an additional
30 seconds. You may want to use a spatula to press down gently on the phulka to
help it puff up.
Once the phulka has puffed up, remove it from the skillet
and place it in a covered container or wrapped in a towel to keep it warm.
Repeat the process for the remaining dough balls.
Your wheat phulkas are ready to be served! Enjoy them with
your favorite vegetable or also with tea..
